THE INTERVIEW WITHOUT WORDS – THE SILENT COMMUNICATION
The idea for Faces of El Gouna was born in 2023 — out of my glimpse behind the scenes, my love for people and black-and-white photography, and my deep connection to a place that is constantly changing. Now, in December 2025, this project finally goes online.
For many years, I have been travelling back and forth between Germany and El Gouna, and during this time I have witnessed how this remarkable place has evolved. Today, El Gouna shines as an emerging luxury resort, with economic considerations and tourist allure clearly taking centre stage.
Yet behind this gleaming facade are the people who truly sustain the town – those who live here, work here, raise their families, contribute to the community, or simply come to enjoy a holiday.
They are the ones who shape El Gouna, who keep it alive, and make it what it is today. Often, they remain in the background, in the shadows of outward splendour, yet they are the heart of this place, its foundation since its very beginning. It is high time to recognise these people and acknowledge that without them, El Gouna would not be what it is today.
The following photography project, Faces of El Gouna, aims to bring these often shadowed figures into the light, capturing their presence and their essence through the lens.
I want to give these people a face — regardless of their background, status, history, or education. Because every human being carries a truth, a depth, a dignity within them that deserves to be seen. And I want to create a SPACE for that.
Inspired by the Süddeutsche Magazin, I invite people to answer four questions not with words, but pantomimically in front of the camera — pure, immediate, and unfiltered.

Faces of El Gouna is not a profit-driven platform.
It is a space — for genuine encounters, for stories, for visibility.
A space for you.
A space for all of us who love El Gouna.
A space for those who work, live or simply holiday here.
A space about my own story and to heal it.
